Applications of Sintered Metal Materials in the Coal Chemical Industry

Coal chemical industry is a core field for the clean and efficient utilization of coal. Its processes cover gasification, purification, synthesis and post-treatment, which are long-term faced with severe working conditions such as high temperature, high pressure, strong corrosion and high solid particle erosion. Sintered metal materials (including sintered powder, fiber, wire mesh etc.), with unique advantages of high temperature resistance, corrosion resistance, high strength and controllable porous structure, are perfectly suitable for severe working conditions in coal chemical industry. They have become core materials for key equipment in coal chemical industry, widely used in scenarios such as coal powder conveying, filtration and separation, gas distribution, providing core support for long-term stable operation, efficiency improvement and cost reduction of coal chemical plants.

Core Application Scenarios of Sintered Metal Materials in Coal Chemical Industry

1. High-Temperature Syngas/ Coal Gas Purification: Core Components for Filtration and Separation

Crude syngas produced from coal gasification (Shell, GSP, HT-L and other processes) contains a large amount of coal powder, ash slag and catalyst particles, with a temperature of 400–800 °C. High-temperature precision filtration and purification are required to avoid blockage of subsequent equipment and catalyst poisoning.

2. Catalyst Recovery and Regeneration: High-Efficiency Separation Carrier

Coal chemical synthesis (methanol, acetic acid, synthetic ammonia) and hydrogenation processes require a large number of solid catalysts (such as copper-based, nickel-based, molecular sieves). Catalysts are expensive and easy to wear and loss, requiring efficient recovery.

3. Coal Tar and Oil Refining: Precision Filtration Media

Coal tar and coal liquefaction oil contain solid impurities, colloids and asphaltenes, which need filtration and purification to improve oil quality and protect subsequent hydrogenation catalysts.

4. Gas Distribution: Porous Functional Components

Sintered metal gas diffuser: 316L stainless steel sintered porous structure with uniform pore size, which evenly diffuses process gases (N₂, CO₂, H₂) into gasifiers and reactors, optimizes gas-solid contact efficiency, and avoids local overheating or uneven reaction.

5. Coal Powder Conveying System: Anti-Blocking and Wear-Resistant Components

N₂/CO₂ is used as carrier gas for coal powder conveying in pulverized coal gasification. Coal powder is easy to adhere to pipelines and valves, resulting in blockage and unstable conveying. Sintered metal aeration cone/pipeline aerator: installed in coal powder conveying pipelines and silos to fluidize coal powder, prevent coal powder adhesion and blockage, and ensure stable coal powder conveying.

Development Trend

With the development of coal chemical industry towards large-scale, clean and intelligent direction, sintered metal materials will continue to upgrade towards high-end, composite, integrated and green, and the application scenarios will be further expanded to help the high-quality and sustainable development of coal chemical industry.
